Referral from another organisation
You can ask to be referred directly through our partner organisations, including Vixen and RhED. Please speak to a worker about a referral.
Eligibility criteria
The Sex Worker Legal Program will offer a legal advice appointment to current or former sex workers* in Victoria whose legal issue relates to their status as a current or former sex worker.
If you are referred to us by Vixen or RhED but your legal issue does not relate to your status as a current or former sex worker (i.e. family law or housing), we’ll offer you an appointment with a lawyer at Southside Justice who specialises in these areas. All our staff have undertaken sex work affirmative practice training from Vixen.
*Sex worker definition is not restricted to full service workers. It includes anyone who identifies as a sex worker including those who do online or adult entertainment work and anyone referred to us by Vixen or RhED.
It does not include workers in the sex industry who do not undertake sex work themselves such as receptionists, security or managers.
Our Intake Process
Once you’ve been referred or made an inquiry to the Sex Worker Legal Program, our admin staff will ask you for your name and names of other parties involved in your legal query so we can check for any conflicts.
Admin staff will ask for other personal information, but if you’re not comfortable providing it to them, you can decline and wait until your legal advice appointment.
We’ll ask you for a brief description of your legal issue to confirm that it relates to your status as a current or former sex worker in Victoria.
We’ll then offer you a legal advice appointment either in person, by phone or video conference – whichever you prefer.
