Last month, two courageous local women, Gail and Laura, went public with their experience in the public housing system. Reported in The Age, their story highlights the instability residents in the inner south can face – an issue that will grow as thousands are displaced through the public housing redevelopments.
In representing Gail and Laura, we’ve sent dozens of emails, made countless calls, and prepared detailed submissions to secure a suitable home and prevent their eviction into homelessness.
We don’t share this to show how busy we are. We share it to show what it takes to pursue a just outcome.
Progress is rarely quick or straightforward. It requires persistence, trust, and the time to stand alongside people as they navigate complex systems.
Gail and Laura’s story gained attention, and that attention matters. But for every story that reaches the media, countless more do not.
This is why your support matters.
Right now, relocations from public housing, particularly the Older Persons Towers in Albert Park, Prahran and St Kilda, are causing deep uncertainty. People are being asked to leave homes they’ve lived in for decades, often without clear information or support.
